Natasha Alagarasan, Communications Director at PSC, has been appointed to the newly established New Jersey-India Commission by Governor Phil Murphy. This commission is designed to enhance bilateral trade and investment, promote economic development, and foster cultural and educational exchanges between New Jersey and India.

Governor Murphy expressed his enthusiasm for the commission, stating, “I am honored to establish the New Jersey-India Commission to strengthen the cultural and economic ties between New Jersey and India for generations to come.” He highlighted the importance of building on the longstanding economic connections between the two regions and the significant contributions of the Indian immigrant community to New Jersey.

Lieutenant Governor and Secretary of State Tahesha Way also praised the initiative, saying, “I am delighted to join Governor Murphy in establishing the New Jersey-India Commission. As Secretary of State, I look forward to overseeing the commission’s efforts to build on the deep-rooted ties between our state and India.”

India is a key economic partner for New Jersey, being its second-largest foreign direct investor. The state’s Indian community plays a crucial role in its diverse demographic. The commission aims to build upon the successful economic missions and partnerships initiated in recent years, including the 2019 mission led by Governor Murphy, which secured over 1,200 new jobs through the expansion of Indian companies in New Jersey.

Consul General of India Binaya Srikanta Pradhan commended the commission’s formation, noting that it would enhance the robust economic and cultural ties between New Jersey and India, bolstering opportunities for collaboration across various sectors.

Wesley Mathews, Chair of the Commission, expressed his eagerness to collaborate with his colleagues to strengthen the partnership between New Jersey and India. The commission will comprise 35 to 45 members appointed by the Governor, with Natasha Alagarasan among the distinguished appointees.

The New Jersey-India Commission is poised to play a pivotal role in advancing the shared goals of economic growth and cultural exchange between New Jersey and India, with Natasha Alagarasan contributing her expertise to these important efforts.
